Congratulations to the Salisbury Theatre Department for receiving two Freddy nominations for the spring production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” - one for Outstanding Stage Crew and one for Outstanding Featured Performance by an Actress - Jessette Long as Sally Brown.
The Freddy Awards show will be held at the State Theater in Easton and broadcast on WFMZ May 25.
On April 27, Salisbury High School held a blood drive. All the blood was donated to the Miller Keystone Blood Center. Eighty-eight people participated in the event and 66 pints of blood were collected. This was the largest blood drive Salisbury has ever had.
Salisbury Twirlers went to Wildwood, N.J. May 4 to compete in the Atlantic Coast Championships. The twirlers performed May 4 for the preliminaries and May 6 for the finals. Each team is judged based on their overall performance or the general effect, use of equipment and use of the choreography, or movement. Congratulations to the high school twirlers, who received a score of 89.5 and the middle school twirlers, who received a score of 93.8. Both teams took the Scholastic Twirler World Championships.
Track and field competed May 10. Jack Reichenbach took first place in the long jump and second place in the high jump. Rylee Donaldson took second place in the 400 meter and third place in the long jump. Bobby Kulp and Erica Holben both took third place in the high jump. Erica Holben also took fourth place in the long jump and Madison Jewell took fourth place in the pole vault. Olivia Hoeing took fourth place in the triple jump. Congratulations to the track and field team.
Looking ahead, there will be no school for students May 25, 26 and 29.
Graduation for the Class of 2017 will be held 6 p.m. June 7 at Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N. Sixth St., Allentown. Each graduate will receive six tickets and all guests must have a ticket. All tickets will be distributed to the graduating seniors around June 1. Following the ceremony, the junior class sponsors a reception at the Arts Park for the graduating seniors. All graduates and their guests are invited. Light refreshments of water and baked goods will be available.
Baccalaureate will be held 7 p.m. June 5 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown. This is a non-denominational ceremony focusing on celebrating graduation, thanking educators and parents and looking ahead to the future. The baccalaureate service is an optional graduation activity organized by students and parents independent of the school district.
