Coplay: Tire drop-off event is Saturday

There will be a free tire drop-off event May 20, a program held once every year. The drop-off site returns to the Coplay Parkway lower lot, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Last year, it was at the bottom of Bridge Street on the former General Supply property the borough acquired.

Lafarge Cement, Cementon, will again provide a trailer for the discarded tires. Borough employees will assist residents bringing the tires for disposal.

Tires from cars, SUVs, pickup trucks and vans will be accepted. Tires from large trucks, motorcycles, ATVs and bicycles will not be accepted.

Six tires per household is the limit.

A proof of borough residency is required.

The national Stamp Out Hunger drive did not take place Saturday in the borough. There were no postcards delivered to residents in town asking for contributions to the postal carriers’ collection. A mail carrier said the project will resume next year.

Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association’s pantry is a beneficiary of the food drive. Residents wanting to donate food can drop off the boxed and canned items in the borough hall lobby.
