Track ends regular season, EPC meet starts begins

Day 1 of the East Penn Conference meet is in the books and a few Northampton individuals stood out.

For the girls, Alexis Barrall took the pole vault competition by clearing 10-0. She finished ahead of Savannah Rivera of Whitehall who cleared 9-0 and finished in second place.

Aja Blount was fourth in the shot put throwing a 32-8.75. Jachebed Arthur took first place with a toss of 36-10.5.

Tatiana Lopez qualified for the 100 hurdle event with a time of 16.45. That was second best, only behind Kiaya Jones of Pocono East who had a 16.26.

For the boys, Jeremy Sell was third in the shot put.

Day 2 was scheduled for Wednesday, which comes after Press deadlines. Look for more next week.

The Northampton track teams ended their season with wins over Central. The girls won 79-71 while the boys won 111-39.

It was the final match before the EPC meet.

Both the boys and the girls finished with very impressive records of 9-2 this season and will look to continue that success during the postseason.

As for the Central meet, Morgan Heffelfinger had a huge day on the way to leading the boys to victory.

Heffelfinger won three individual events and was part of the winning 400 relay team. Heffelfinger took the 100 with a time of 11.2. He also won the long jump with a 20-3 as well as the triple jump with a 40-4.

Jared Jackson was a double-winner for the Kids, taking the 200 in 24.1 and the 400 in 51.9. Isaac N’Jenga won the 3200 in 10:49.1. In the field, Doug Sacco took the high jump on 5-9, Cole Kleppinger the pole vault with a 9-3 and Jeremy Sell the shot put with a throw of 43-3.

The girls swept all three relay events while picking up four individual victories.

Hannah Flaven, Breanna Colona-Dotter, Alexis Barrall and Aja Blount all picked up wins. Flaven won the 400 in 1:02 while Colona-Dotter took the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.6. On the field, it was Barrall winning the pole vault, clearing 10-0 and Blount using a throw of 31-3 to win the shot put.
