STUDENT PROFILE - August Fegley, Lehigh Valley Charter HS for the Arts

Grade: 11

Family members: Merce Tonne, mother; Michael Fegley, father; Oaks Fegley and Winslow Fegley, brothers

Favorite subject: History and environmental science. First and foremost, I am a history nerd and love learning about different cultures from the past. History prepares me to understand deeply the important places I plan to travel to someday. I am fascinated with environmental science and how the earth’s many interconnected systems function, and how we are affecting them. I hope to be an environmentalist and to teach others how to help the environment stay healthy and work properly.

Activities: Classical violin for 10 years, and voice lessons outside of school

Next steps: I am looking into many liberal arts programs and hope to study musical theater and possibly archaeology, although I see many possibilities through other interests.

Career goals: My goal is to one day be a professional stage actress. With my love of traveling I would also like to go on a mission trip to a country in need after high school.

Heroes: I consider my art teachers at school, my vocal coach, and wonderful directors like William Sanders to be among my role models. I am thankful they have allowed me to feel free and safe to explore and grow, teaching me to be a stronger actress, performer, and a better person.

Hobbies: I enjoy listening to and learning new music, creative writing, hiking and rock climbing.

Volunteer/community work: For the past two years, as part of a high school internship, I have been an assistant acting and movement teacher for the Civic Theatre School for students in grades 1-8.

Greatest accomplishment (so far): I lived in Barcelona, Spain, as an au pair for two months last summer. I also consider “Carrie” as one of the most difficult roles I have taken on, and I’m proud of the success resulting from my hard work.

Advice for peers: To other young performers and peers – the number one thing is to always trust in yourself, because no matter what, you are the only one who knows what is best for you. Nobody will ever know what it is like to be you.
