Lucy Jane Sterner

Lucy Jane Sterner, 68, died April 22, 2017, in her home in Hancock, Md.

Born Jan. 22, 1949, in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Lillian Rupp.

A 1966 graduate of Northwestern Lehigh High School, New Tripoli, she was a 1970 graduate of Hood College, Frederick, Md., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education and English.

She was an English teacher at Southern Fulton High School until her retirement. She also held the position of assistant girls basketball coach at the school for 20 years.

A lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America, she served as a summer camp director for several years at Camp Mosey Wood in the Poconos, and then at Camp Yankee Trails, Stafford Springs, Conn.

She enjoyed camping immensely and made several lifelong friends with whom she enjoyed camping.

An avid reader, board-game player and animal advocate, she loved her pets and hummingbirds, and truly enjoyed a great game of backgammon or Skip-Bo, just as her mother did.

She enjoyed traveling, family holidays, even though she could never win the Easter paper hunt, and motorcycle rides.

She just returned recently from her dream vacation in Hawaii with her sister and her closest friends.

Her survivors include her daughter Bethany Sterner-King and husband, Garret, of Washington, D.C.; and son Jordan and fiancee, Melissa Darmody, of Catonsville, Md.; sister, Diane Cappa and husband, Rob, of Oley; her companion, Misty Clatterbuck; and her close friends, Jill and Dan Delaney; two nieces; one nephew; three grandnieces; and one grandson on the way.
