Fire company QRS truck passes inspection

Jay Scheffler, chief of the Goodwill Fire Company, Germansville, announced at the April 20 meeting of the Heidelberg Township supervisors that one truck has passed state inspection for Quick Response Service equipment.

A second truck will soon be ready for inspection.

He said Bake Oven Knob Road has nonexistent dust suppression. They have answered three calls recently.

One of those times it was foggy which made it terrible. He said the police were also tired of it.

The previous Thursday they responded to a fire along the Appalachian Trail and asked if people were aware of the repercussions up there because of the difficulty of reaching the area.

Rocks have been used to close the trail to traffic.

“Can we bill them, make them be responsible for their accidents. It’s a nuisance?” Scheffler asked.

The ambulance, manned 11 hours a day, responded to 21 calls in March. There was an eight-minute response time with a minimum of two minutes.

Supervisor Steve Bachman in the recreation report said it was voted to not allow the Northwestern Youth Athletic Association a voting membership on the Recreation Commission.

The issue was discussed as part of updating the bylaws of that organization.

Nestle donated $5,000 to the commission for use on the walking trail.

Eric Andreus, resource manager for Nestle, said if they needed more help with the trail they should contact him. It is hoped the trail will be finished this fall.

The township will provide a letter of support for grant applications for the walking trail.

Roadmaster Kevin Huber said the crew has been putting up signs. The amount of cold patch needed is down from previous years. Half of the dirt roads have been gone over and shoulders are being cut. Tree trimming is finished.

The body is being added to the new truck.

Township Manager Janice Meyers said Donna Wright of Lower Milford, municipal coordinator for farmland preservation, requested a meeting with her and Dawn Didra of the Environmental Advisory Council.

Among things to be discussed are lowering the required size of easements to 10 or 20 acres so they would be easier to sell. Meyers said $10,000 was budgeted and can be contributed to preservation.

Creating a mixed-use area zoning map is being discussed.

Engineer and Zoning Officer Chris Noll said he keeps monitoring Heidelberg Heights and is knocking on doors.

He responded to a garbage complaint on Sell Road and he reported here is a dilapidated barn along Sawmill Road.

He will be sending a letter of violation.

At Powderhorn Court there is a business without a permit. Parking is being done on the grass but Noll said he doesn’t know if there is anything to do about that. Also, pallets are all over the property.

On Hollenbach Road photos were taken to show one of two swales that is working as it should.

Water comes down a paved driveway and onto the road which is perfectly flat at that point so it doesn’t drain.

Owner Tim Metzger said he is willing to take care of his water but not everything.

The water is supposed to go toward a pipe from the swale but it wasn’t when Noll was out.

Noll said he would go out again when there is more water.

The Environmental Advisory Council said it earned $120 from a coupon sale fundraiser which will pay for a scholarship.

Members cleared trash from the roads in May and in August they will have a stand at the Night in the Country celebration.

Quotes are still coming in for the new heating-cooling system. Huber said new pipes are needed to go through the roof.

Lynn Township put out the joint oil bid requests. The low bid was $1.59 per gallon from Asphalt Maintenance.

A driveway waiver was requested. At the 55 mph speed limit, there would be a 375-foot sight distance, which would require the cutting of many trees along Fenstermacher Road.

Huber said he would do a traffic study.

Owner Scott Smith said a lower speed limit would accomplish the same thing by allowing a shorter sight distance and would benefit everyone because there is a dust problem.
