Ruth W. Shive

Ruth W. Shive, 71, of Macungie, died April 26, 2017, at home after a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of the Rev. Raymond P. Shive. They were married for nearly 50 years. Born in Washington, D.C., she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Dorothy (Buglass) Wiles.

She graduated with honors from Washington (DC) Bible College in 1967.

She and her husband spent nearly 50 years in full-time ministry, first in church and Bible college settings in the United States, and then missionary work in South Africa and Jamaica. Her great love and focus was teaching the Bible to women and children. She was active at Bible Baptist Church of Breinigsville, through a variety of encouragement and teaching ministries.

She and her husband served with TEAMS for Medical Missions for 13 years.

She is survived by her husband; son, Nathan and his wife, Christy, of Macungie; daughter, Amy and her husband Geoff Erb of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; four grandchildren, Maggie and Paul and Micah and Emma Erb; sister, Dr. Martha Quick; brother, Dr. David Wiles; 30 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two siblings, Dr. Peter Wiles and Lucy Crittenden.

Contributions may be made to the Ruth Shive Memorial, TEAMS for Medical Missions, P.O. Box 215, Macungie, 18062. These funds will help the Mission’s Bible teaching ministries to Jamaican children.

A memorial service is planned at Bible Baptist Church, Breinigsville, date and time to be announced. Arrangements were made by the Schmoyer Funeral Home, Breinigsville.
