Year’s winding down
Summer is slowly approaching, along with all the exciting events that have been going on at Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School.
The seniors have been extremely active. IB Exams started May 1 and continue all the way through May 19. Seniors then have to look forward to prom on May 25 and the big day of graduation, May 30.
The juniors are excited to take their spots and have been fundraising for their senior trip in early September. The school year is truly coming to an end and the juniors, along with the other lower classmates, have been prepping for finals.
With May 1 being National Decision Day, all 59 seniors students have made their final college decisions. Maya Kuykens and Kathleen Tone have worked side by side to work on a college board to give all seniors recognition for their decision. The college board deals with the “Friends” television show.
One of our students, Brianna Newman will be attending NYU, a very prestigious university. Also, one of our students, John Sauter, has been accepted and will attend an Ivy League school, Cornell University. Our students are very excited about the next step and their next four years.
Along with the college board, the guidance counselors had saved a date to have the seniors wear all their college gear to let the whole school know where they are going. Sierra Austin and Cevrina Vasquez have been actively preparing for graduation. They have been working side-by-side to create the senior video. All April, they have been recording teachers’ and students’ confessions.
One of our seniors, Kiana Gonzalez, just recently held a Day of Silence. She created the Sexuality And Gender Acceptance Club here at LVA. SAGA has been ongoing for the past two years. Kiana has been working with French teacher Miss Wingerter. SAGA has helped the LGBT community at LVA feel safe and feel welcomed.
April was National Donate Life Month. To celebrate, Suzette Alleyne and I, Kimberly Morillo, worked together to make a board to advocate for people to become organ donors. The board provided statistics and incorporated pinwheels with the names of seniors who support organ donation.
LVA is holding the annual Spring Fling May 6 to celebrate LVA’s birthday. The Lehigh Valley Academy Soul Steppers will be performing. There will be several stands for food, entertainment and wholesome family fun.
