Northampton: Breakfast to be served April 23 at Assumption BVM

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 2181 Washington Ave., will host a breakfast 8:30 a.m.-noon April 23.

In addition to the usual menu, this month’s special is creamed chipped beef on toast.

Tickets will be sold at the door.

The fourth annual Spring Bouquet concert will be held 3 p.m. April 23 in the sanctuary of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 19th Street and Lincoln Avenue. The concert of vocal and instrumental music ranging from Samuel Scheidt to John Rutter will be performed by Debbie Glick, flutist; the Rev. Todd Fennell, bass-baritone and trombonist; and Sandra Deiter, accompanist and organ soloist.

Glick, a private flute instructor, teaches fourth- through eighth-grade band for the Alexandria Township School District in Pittstown, N.J.

Fennell, a member of the Bach Choir of Bethlehem and the St. Luke’s Singers, is pastor of St. Paul’s UCC.

Deiter, a former member of the artist faculty of Westminster Conservatory in Princeton, N.J., is organist and choir director at St. Paul’s.

A free-will offering will be received to benefit future musical programs at the church.

A social in the parlor will follow the concert.

Reminder: Northampton Area Public Library, 1615 Laubach Ave., will hold a Leap into Science session 7:30 p.m. April 20. This program, for elementary-aged students and their families, will promote engagement through STEM. This session is called “Air Is Everywhere.”

This project is made possible by a grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services, as administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education through the Office of the Commonwealth Libraries. Registration is not required.

The library will also host a 6:30 p.m. April 26 presentation by Sharon Taylor and C. Terry Walters, who will discuss their book “The Lost Haven of Sharon Taylor.” The book deals with gender equality in sports and Title IX. Call the library at 610-262-7537 to register for this event.

Northampton Area Food Bank will hold a general meeting April 25 in the social hall of Queenship of Mary Catholic Church, 1324 Newport Ave.

Dinner will be served 6-7 p.m. Hot dogs, barbecue and drinks will be provided.

Covered dishes and desserts are welcome.

The business meeting begins 7 p.m.

If you want to know more about the food bank, are interested in volunteering or are currently volunteering there, you are asked to attend.

Area churches and businesses are encouraged to have members and employees attend as well.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714 will host a Cinco de Mayo party, with music by Friends of Tom, 7:30 p.m. May 6 at the Post home, Main Street and Laubach Avenue.

The VFW hosts a polka and button box event 7:30-10:30 p.m. every Friday at the Post home.

Also, the VFW social hall is now accepting new members for 2017. Membership is open to the public.
