Kerry Callaghan
Grade: 12
Family members: I live with my parents, Karyn and Joseph, and my siblings, Shannon and Stephen.
Favorite subject: History has always been my favorite subject because it gives everything a reason. Specifically, global studies was definitely the best class because I find global conflicts most relevant in our lives.
Activities: I have played soccer since I was five years old and am a captain for the varsity high school team. I am also an Irish step dancer. In school I am involved with student council, as the class historian, and with BASD Mini-THON as captain of the family relations committee. Some of the other clubs I am involved with include Future Business Leaders of America, Students Against Destructive Decisions and National Honor Society.
Next steps: I plan to attend a university and I hope to major in business and travel abroad.
Career Goals: I look forward to being very successful, but more importantly, happy. I hope to have an international job since I am interested in different cultures and business.
Heroes: My grandfather, who was also my best friend, taught me so many life lessons that I carry with me every day, even though I was so young when he passed. He is my hero because he put everyone else in life before himself. I hope to be as selfless and giving as he when I am older.
Hobbies: I love to edit videos and make movies of all my adventures, and I like to do ceramics in my spare time.
Current job(s): I work at Martelucci’s and I referee youth soccer games for BMYSL.
Volunteer/community work: Every year I volunteer at the winter and spring Special Olympics. Through Irish step dance, I have had the opportunity to perform at nursing homes and schools in the area.
Likes: I love the beach, music, reading and watching sports.
Dislikes: I can’t stand cheese (unless it’s melted), and it bothers me when I see people give up.
Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment so far was welcome incoming freshmen to the Freedom family this past August. My principal and I came up with the idea to go door-to-door and greet all 478 of the new students before the first day of school. It was a great success and an eye-opening experience for everyone involved.
Advice for peers: Never take the easy way out and don’t give up. There is nothing more satisfying than overcoming challenges that involve a significant amount of hard work and dedication.
