There’s murder afoot on the stage at Notre Dame High School with “Curtains,” a play-within-a-play musical comedy, at 7 p.m. April 20, 21 and 2 and 7 p.m. April 22, auditorium, Notre Dame High School, 3417 Church Road, Easton.

With music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and written by Rupert Holmes, “Curtains” is based on the book and concept by Peter Stone.

It’s 1959 and Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, a Boston police detective and theater fan, investigates the opening night demise of the untalented leading lady of the musical, “Robbin’ Hood of the Old West.” While trying to solve the mysterious deaths of additional cast and crew members of the show, the lonely gumshoe attempts to save the day, save the play, as well as find love.

It’s director Rody Gilkeson’s 18th Notre Dame spring production. Aided by his wife, Elizabeth Marsh-Gilkeson, as music director and costume designer, Gilkeson is also assisted by choreographer Meghan Koehler, stage manager and technical director Sara Faubert, and set designers Brett Oliveira and Taylor Van Kooten.

“Wide Open Spaces,” “Show People,” “I Miss the Music,” “In the Same Boat” and “A Tough Act to Follow” are among the featured songs.

The musical whodunit premiered in Los Angeles in 2006. Its 2007 Broadway debut garnered eight Tony Award nominations and received one Tony.
