Vernon J. Howerter, 81, of Emmaus, died April 3, 2017, at Lehigh Center, Macungie. He was the husband of Maelene L. (Scott) Howerter for the past 57 years. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Edgar Paul and May (Miller) Howerter.

He was a salesman at Howerter’s Furniture and was also the owner of The Good News Bookstore, Emmaus.

He received his bachelor’s degree in Christian education. He was currently attending Faith Evangelical Free Church, Trexlertown and was a former member of Bethel Bible Fellowship Church, Emmaus.

He was a loving and serious man with a big sense of humor. He loved the Lord and enjoyed teaching Bible study.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Robin Young; son, Scott; grandchildren Rachael Young, Erin and Drew. He was predeceased by brothers, Paul and Carl.
