LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

VERA CRUZ FIRE DEPARTMENT

Vera Cruz Fire Department volunteers joined with volunteers with the local chapter of the American Red Cross to install free fire alarms for Vera Cruz residents. Thirteen firefighters and 15 Red Cross volunteers visited 23 homes to install 54 smoke detectors April 1.

A mix of retirees and several student volunteers helped the crews with installations. Peter Brown, the executive director for the Lehigh Valley-Bucks Chapter of the Red Cross, was grateful for the community’s involvement. He also mentioned several high school students were present this year to fulfill service requirements for their schools.

“We really like working with the students and would like to see more get involved,” Brown said.

The teams enjoyed breakfast donated by 3 Men and a Bagel in Trexlertown and lunch provided by Chick-fil-A.
