LMT BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
During the April 6 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, Commissioner Brian Higgins requested a change in zoning for warehouse usage in two zoning districts. Higgins said, “Enough is enough. We have enough.” The commissioners voted unanimously to only allow warehouses in the already established area of Spring Creek Estates.
Macungie Ambulance Corps Operations Manager Christopher Greb gave a report on the ambulance corps. There were 3,689 calls in 2016 which is up by 206 from 2015.
Lower Macungie was awarded a grant for its participation in the recycling program. The township collected over 6,335 tons of residential and commercial recycling items.
There will be canvassing of dog licenses in May by the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement.
Kent Yorgey is proposing road closures again for the annual 5K race for the Ben Yorgey Foundation. This was approved.
Schoeneck Road construction will be complete by the end of June. The portion of the road presently closed will reopen soon.
The proposal for a light at Cedar Crest Boulevard and Minesite Road will move forward. Hanover Engineering gave the lowest bid and will complete the study at a cost not to exceed $11,000.
Act 172 which offers tax incentives for municipal volunteers is being considered. The state is actually considering in making this issue a state-wide project. This will continue to be discussed.
The request for a fence at Meadowyck Condominium has been denied as there is no police action regarding this. There will be the possibility of lighting. This will be further investigated.
There is a proposal to plant a tree near the dog park for the Arbor Day planting.
The Dennis Timmer Memorial Trail dedication ceremony will be held soon. The dates are being coordinated with family members and the ceremony will be held at Creamery Park.
Lower Macungie Township Community Day will be held May 2 and there will be a shredding event May 6.
The township has 18 bridges and the list has been prioritized as to the need for maintenance with Macungie Road having the greatest need presently. Bids were sought for a variety of levels of maintenance from repairs to replacing the entire bridge. The middle bid is to completely restore the bridge which should make the bridge sound for a long time. The bid for this project is $189,000. Macungie Road will be closed but is to be re-opened by mid-August or penalties will be imposed.
The Church Lane baseball field will get the expanded third base fencing. Anchor Fence gave the lowest bid.
Church Lane will also expand on their water line so the fields can be watered.
