The Rev. Henry K. Wohlgemuth
The Rev. Henry K. Wohlgemuth, 85, formerly of Andreas, died March 31, 2017, at Souderton Mennonite Home, Montgomery County. Born in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Henry and Elizabeth L. (Zahn) Wohlgemuth. He was the husband of Dorothy A. (Kline) Wohlgemuth for 61 years.
He was a 1953 graduate of Gettysburg College and a 1957 graduate of Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary. He earned a master’s degree in social work from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.
He was the pastor of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Harrisburg; St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Silver Spring, Md.; and Salem-Hetzel’s Lutheran Church, Pine Grove. He was the interim pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Auburn; St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Port Carbon; St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, North Weissport; and retired from his most recent charge, Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ashfield.
In 1959, he became the executive director of Lutheran Social Services, Eastern Region, Lancaster County. He then was the executive director of the Lutheran Children and Family Services and of the U.S. Government Refugee Services, transitioning to Tressler Lutheran Services of Central Pennsylvania, from 1968 through 1981. From the early 1980s to the mid 1990s, he was the founder and executive director of Lutheran Ministries of Georgia, specializing in group homes for medically fragile children and resettlement services for ex-prisoners, etc.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Beth and her husband Theodore Schweiger III of Gilbertsville; a son, Kurt G. and his wife Lisa G. of Phoenixville; four grandchildren, Ryan, Brennan, Liane and Kasey; three great-grandchildren, Makayla, Bryn and Silas; and two cousins.
