James Anthony

James Anthony, 78, died April 1, 2017, after a long struggle with lung disease. Born Aug. 29, 1938, in Wilkes- Barre, he was a son of Otto and Elizabeth Funke, and was the third of four children.

He was the husband of Mary Ann Anthony.

He grew up in Lancaster and graduated from McCaskey High School.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Lafayette College and later earned his Master’s degree in engineering management from George Washington University.

He and his family lived in Allentown; Roanoke, Va.; Ocean Springs, Miss.; and Chattanooga, Tenn.; before returning to live and work in the Lehigh Valley 15 years ago.

He was an expert in machinery used in the mining and shipping industries, and his business trips took him to many countries around the globe, including China, South Africa, Finland, Brazil and Chile.

He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hiker, cyclist and sailor.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visited India, Costa Rica, St. Maarten, and many countries in Europe.

A devoted sibling, husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife; daughters and their spouses Lisa Anthony Midyette and Buxton Midyette of New York City and Trish Anthony Grace and Stewart Grace of Sterling, Va.

His five granddaughters, Ellie and Zora Grace, Mary B, Byerly and India Midyette, were the light of his life.

He is also survived by his sister, Betty Jo Duschl of Wilmington, Del., and brothers Otto and Richard Funke, both of Lancaster.
