Girls aim for ‘statement’ year

Northampton’s girls lacrosse team wants to make 2017 a landmark season.

The Kids want to put themselves on the map after last year’s 5-12 campaign and head coach Paige Hoffman believes this year’s team has the potential to make their mark.

“Our goal is to make a statement in the conference and walk away with experience that will make the team a stronger, more talented group than they already are,” said Hoffman. “This will involve playing at a higher level, striving to overcome losses and staying ready for the next challenge.”

Returning players for the Kids are Emily Henry (senior, midfielder/ captain), Brandy Moser (senior, midfielder/ captain), Alyssa Tomsic (senior, midfielder/ captain), Ashley Coughlin (junior, goalie/ captain) and Kate Gogel (junior, midfielder).

New varsity players that Hoffman is relying on are Domenica Lerch (junior, midfielder) and Kendra Sommers (junior, defender).

Tomsic and Henry are both 100 goal scorers and will carry the offensive load for the Kids this year, as they look to make a push towards districts.

“We have a more skilled group this year than ever before,” said Hoffman. “We’ve spent a great deal of time and focus on attack and defensive strategy and we’re excited to put it into practice on the field during games.”
