Board OKs ed partner budgets

Each year, Parkland School Board reviews budgets of its partners in education - Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21, Lehigh Carbon Community College and Lehigh Career and Technical Institute - and the amounts requested by them from the district.

Bob Bold, president of CLIU 21 board, reported Parkland’s increase for 2017-18 is $3, for a total payment of $209,143.

The amount is for the general operating budget and does not include Parkland School District payments for special education and transportation.

Parkland’s share of the LCCC budget in 2017-18 is $1,237,570, a $7,413 increase over the previous term.

Considering all the sponsoring districts, Parkland pays 17.22 percent of the LCCC operating budget and 25.789 percent of the debt service and capital budgets.

The overall $48.8 million LCCC budget for 2017-18 decreases $2.1 million from this school term.

Parkland’s largest increase among the three entities is $144,270 or 4.22 percent at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, for a total district charge of $3,559,587.

The amount includes payments to the general fund and the academic center.

The total $26.3 million LCTI budget reflects a $651,800 increase over last term.

Board members Lisa Adams, Bob Bold, Rob Cohen, Carol Facchiano, David Hein and Jef Reyburn voted in favor of all three budgets.

Mark Hanichak, David Kennedy and Barry Long were not present.

In another matter, Superintendent Richard Sniscak spoke to The Press about the pool resurfacing project at the high school.

The district planned to do the work a year ago but bids exceeded the amount allocated in the 2016-17 budget.

“We have better pricing this year from a different company,” Sniscak said.

The bid for the pool resurfacing was awarded to Stonebridge Inc. at a cost of $336,800, which will be paid through the Capital Projects Fund.
