Allen Township/East Allen Township: Municipal offices closed April 14

Allen Township and East Allen Township municipal offices will be closed April 14 in observance of Good Friday.

St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 8142 Valley View Road, Seemsville, will hold a meat bingo April 22.

Doors open 11:30 a.m. The games start 1 p.m.

The cost of a ticket includes 20 games. Specials are an additional cost.

Refreshments will be available for purchase.

The event includes a tricky tray and a quilt raffle.

East Allen Fire Department auxiliary members are planning a designer purse bingo April 23 at the station, 5354 Nor-Bath Blvd. Doors open 11:30 a.m. Bingo begins 1 p.m.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1335 Old Carriage Road, Kreidersville, will celebrate the food and culture of the Pennsylvania Dutch with an evening of dining and entertainment April 29.

Doors will open 4:30 p.m.; the meal will be served 5 p.m.

The menu will feature traditional Pennsylvania Dutch foods - such as potato filling - cooked in the style of Walp’s Restaurant. Following the meal, Keith Brintzenhoff will entertain with a program of Pennsylvania German music, stories, folklore and humor.

The evening will be topped off with a dessert bar, where guests can choose their own dessert from such traditional Pennsylvania Dutch favorites as wet-bottom shoofly pie, funny cake, apple pie, molasses cake or whoopie pies.

A basket raffle will also be held.

Seating is by reservation and is limited to 125 persons.

There is a cost. Children 5 years and under eat for free.

The Civil War Sons of Veterans will participate in a Memorial Day service and gun salute noon May 28 at Horner’s Cemetery.

Tours of the cemetery will also be available after the program. Newer research has revealed that the area and cemetery have ties to George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt and Ben Franklin.
