One last time
For many high school seniors, the fourth quarter is all about getting the requisite class credits, passing the occasional test, and counting down the tedious days until graduation finally comes.
For Konstandinos “Dino” Zaharakis, president of the senior class, it’s all about getting together to have one great last time.
Since his sophomore year, Dino has worked as president to create an environment of camaraderie among his fellow classmates: “My goals as class president are to be someone that can make sure that things our class wants to happen happen, and to provide the school, but more importantly our class, with the best events and memories possible.”
So far this year, Dino and his officers have organized fundraisers with Yankee Candle and Gertrude Hawk Chocolates, held the school’s annual winter formal, and planned a senior class trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. In past years, the class offices have assembled their junior class prom, originated the “Panther Card” fundraiser, and organized a 5K event to benefit the autism advocacy organization Autism Speaks.
Now, Dino hopes to continue this streak of success by reviving the famed Lip Dub at Saucon Valley High School.
Previously done by the Class of 2011, the Lip Dub entails the collective work of hundreds of high schoolers, incorporating all classes to lip sync to pop music as the students romp through the hallways and around the parking lot. Six years ago, the class chose “It Takes Two” and “Good Vibrations” as the background music for their video. (It can still be viewed by searching “Saucon Valley Lip Dub Class of 2011” on YouTube.) The event bursts with the spirit and fellowship that Dino hopes to impart to his student body before the end of senior year.
Dino is joined by Michael Boreman, vice president; Joshua Snead, treasurer; Kiran Pandey, secretary; and Scott Guidos, teacher advisor, in addition to a committee of seniors who have devoted their time to help create another lasting memory for Saucon Valley’s Class of 2017.
