NHS track teams start season with three wins

The Northampton track team got off to a great start to their season with two close wins over Bethlehem Catholic. The girls beat the Hawks 77.16-72.8 while the boys won 78-72.

Lyndsey Gallagher broke the Al Erdosy Stadium record in the 3200. She ran a 11:39 which broke the old stadium record of 11:46, held by Joelle Perelli and set in 2016.

Alexis Barrall was the only field event winner winning the pole vault, but clearing 10-0, a new school record.

Victoria Keenan was first in the 200 in 29.9 while Olivia Daniels was tops in the 400 with a time of 1:05.9. Tatiana Lopez and Elizabeth Fehnel swept the hurdles. Lopez won the 100 in 17.2 while Fehnel won the 300 in 52.4.

Against Bethlehem Catholic, two girls relay team registered wins. The 3200 team of Hannah Flaven, Beth Albright, Gallagher, and Magen Perelli won in a time of 10:34. The girls 1600 team of Olivia Daniel, Hannah Flaven, Rachel Apsley, and Alexis Barrall also won.

For the boys, Anthony Huffsmith won the 400 in 55.4, Jared Jackson the 800 in 2:12.4, Isaiah Tyler in the 1600 in 5:22.6 and Isaac N’Jenga the 3200 in 11:16.6.

In the field events Lee Bryant won the high jump clearing 5-5 while Morgan Heffelfinger took the long jump with a distance of 19-2. Zachery Liggitt was first in the discus with a throw of 104-10.

All three relay teams posted wins as well.

The boys and girls are actually both 3-0 on the year, beating Emmaus and Pocono Mountain East April 3. In that meet, Gallagher won the 800 in a personal best time of 2:24, Albright won the 3200 in 12:44, and Perelli had a personal best time in the 1600 of 5:53. In the throws, the boys swept.

On April 10, NHS track will go against Whitehall and Pleasant Valley at Whitehall, and on April 12, the team will go against Allen, Liberty at Allen.
