Ada V. Bleam

Ada V. Bleam, 108, of Macungie, formerly of Quakertown, died March 19, 2017, at Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Samuel N. Bleam for 62 years until his death in 1998. She was the daughter of the late Earl Hixon and Florence (Shelly) Hixon, of Quakertown.

She worked in a hosiery mill, was a homemaker and an advocate of education. She enabled her four children to go to a university and all of them were teachers at some point of their lives.

She lived simply, but gave generously to community charities. The Quakertown farm where she lived most of her life was claimed by Bucks County for a library and soccer playing fields for community use, and it gave her pleasure to know children benefited.

A determined, independent, but gentle woman, she was shaped by the Great Depression and the values of her Mennonite faith. She and her husband were long-time members of East Swamp Mennonite Church, Quakertown.

She volunteered many years at the Care and Share Shops, Souderton and often worked with Richland Township elections.

She insisted on having her own car, which she drove without accident for 75 years

She is survived by daughters, Marjorie Geissinger, Mary Lou and her husband Robert Cummings, and sons, James and his wife Diane Luginbuhl and Richard and Lou Anderson; grandchildren, Tonia, Margaret Sabulsky, Rebekah Flack, Jennifer Anderson, Chris Cummings, Lisen Cummings, Brian, Kevin; 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Moll Arn, son-in-law Russell Geissinger and a grandson, Jacob.
