Gary A. Neifert Sr., 74, of Cherryville, died March 30, 2017, in Lehigh Valley Health Network, Muhlenberg, just minutes before his birthday, after hard-fought battles with cancer. He was the husband of Louise M. (Gerhard) Neifert for 52 years.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Irvin L. and Dorothy M. (Christman) Neifert.
He was a Coplay High School graduate.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
He owned Gary’s Barber Shop, Lehighton.
He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Cherryville.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 621, F. & A. M., Lehighton; and of the American Legion 314, Lehighton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Gary Allan Jr. and Matthew T. of Moore Township; two brothers, the Rev. Jody L. and his wife Kim L. of Lehighton and Arthur Diehl and his wife Ann of California; two sisters, Ondrea A. of Bethlehem Township and Barbara Andrews of California; and two grandchildren, Nicholas A. and Ashley N.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jessica E.
There will be a calling hour 10-11 a.m., followed by the service 11 a.m., both on April 6 in the church, 4131 Lehigh Drive, Cherryville.
