Freedom High School presents “Peter Pan,” a musical adaptation of J. M. Barrie’s 1904 play of the same name, at 7 p.m. April 5, 6, 7 and 2 and 7:30 p.m. April 8 and 2 p.m. April 9, auditorium, Freedom High School, 3149 Chester Avenue, Bethlehem.
With music by Mark “Moose” Charlap and additional music by Jule Styne, the lyrics were written by Carolyn Leigh, Betty Comden and Adolph Green.
Director Jennifer Wescoe is assisted by music director Nancy Shumaker, choreographer Jerri Brown and pit conductor Michael Moran.
Peter Pan, the boy who won‘t grow up, whisks Wendy Darling and her brothers John and Michael off to his home in Neverland with the help of Tinker Bell’s fairy dust. The children enjoy adventures with Peter’s gang, the Lost Boys, but later encounter Peter’s nemesis, Captain Hook and a boatload of pirates.
The original 1954 Broadway production received three Tony Awards in 1955. The 1979 Broadway revival received three 1980 Tony nominations. The 1990 Broadway revival received two 1991 Tony nominations and the 1998 Broadway revival had one 1999 Tony nomination.
Songs include “Tender Shepherd,” “I’m Flying,” “I Won’t Grow Up,” “Pirate Song” and “Wendy.”
