Grace Eleanor Smith

Grace Eleanor Smith, 90, devoted mother, sister, aunt, Grandma, Nana, from Leesport, died March 26, 2017, with her loving family by her side in the home of her daughter, Susan E. Smith, wife of Brooke, of Hamburg, with whom she last resided.

She was the wife of Ralph Curtis Smith, who died in 1980.

Born in Lynnport, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Florence (Oswald) Smith.

A 1944 graduate of Slatington High School and a 1946 graduate of Allentown Business College, she was employed following graduation as a secretary for four years at the former Hamburg Hosiery Sales for Isaac Greth.

Later, she was employed for 20 years at the former Diener’s Knitting Mills, Leesport, as a sewing machine operator until retiring in 1991.

A member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Sumneytown, she was also a member of the Leesport Senior Citizens and the Leesport Fire Company.

Her passions in life included sewing, dancing, reading and lunching at Hoss’s.

In addition to her daughter Susan E. Adams, wife of Brooke of Hamburg, she is survived by a son Dennis C. Smith and his wife, Helen, of West Lawn; sister Evelyn A. Lichtenwalner, wife of Wilbur, of Allentown; brother Merritt A. Smith of Allentown; grandsons William J. Smith and Kenneth B., Carson B. and R. Curtis B. Adams; and great-grandchildren Annabelle and Brooke Adams, Jesse Smith and Camilla Adams.

Her funeral service will take place 11 a.m. March 30 in Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, with a calling hour beginning 10 a.m.

Pastor Deborah P. Schwartz will officiate. Interment will be in Jerusalem (Red) Church Cemetery, Kempton, immediately following the service.

This a tuition-free public charter school and memorials will be used to assist in securing materials in the library for use by students.
