When the Coplay-Northampton Bridge is reduced to rubble, so goes a piece of history - mostly unknown by many, the staircase leading from the pavement on the north side of the bridge to the grounds below, which stood the Lehigh Valley Railroad passenger terminal. Borough families boarded the train, taking them to Pennsylvania Station in New York City; it was busy during the 1940s. The station also was the hub for incoming and outgoing mail.
Vacant after passenger service ceased decades ago, General Supply Company took ownership of the brick structure, which burned in a major fire in the 1970s, a time when the then-Koplay Keystone Kops, a centennial favorite, had mentioned interest in acquiring the building.
