Upper Mac board discusses Jaindl proposal

Developer David Jaindl and Upper Macungie Township supervisors, during the board’s March 2 meeting, discussed the best fit for the equipment needed for the Applewood Pump Station.

Jaindl plans on building houses and apartments near the Applewood Pump Station at Route 100 and Mohr Lane.

The pump station is a sanitary sewer lift station that moves wastewater uphill, and wastewater drainage flows to the station in the area Jaindl is considering for development. The township and the Jaindl Land Company are looking at cost sharing for replacing the Applewood Pump Station to accommodate the new development.

Jaindl plans on submiting a revised proposal to the board at next month’s meeting.

Jaindl also presented his tentative plans to develop apartment complexes at the intersection of Oldt Road and Nestle Way.

“I think Upper Macungie Township should buy the property Jaindl wants to develop,” resident Jackie Zolotsky Bridges told the board. “The less traffic there is in that area the better.

“My kids play near there and I worry about their safety.”

After much discussion, supervisors decided to obtain appraisals on the Oldt Road/Nestle Way property. The township is considering purchasing the property from the Jaindl Land Company for open space or recreation.

The board voted to move forward with obtaining an appraisal of lots 8, 9 and 10 for open space.

Director of Planning and Zoning Daren Martocci updated supervisors about public improvement repairs at Whispering Farms.

Whispering Farms is a residential subdivision near the intersections of Schaefer Run and Windmill roads in Breinigsville.

The original developer of the subdivision declared bankruptcy.

Pulte Homes will finish the public improvements still in need of completion.

Supervisors also approved the final land development phases necessary to build homes at Trexler Fields near the intersection of Schaefer Run and Trexler roads, Breinigsville. The homes will be constructed by Kay Builders of Allentown.

In other matters, supervisors approved placement of a traffic signal at the intersection of Penn Drive and Keebler Way. The board plans to notify Sharp Corporation, property owner at 7451 Keebler Way, of the approval.

Police Chief Edgardo Colon said this was a good idea to address safety concerns for pedestrian pathways.

Boyd Farm’s Agriculture Security Application was approved for 30 acres at 10535 Trexler Road.

Supervisors also approved sending a letter of congratulations to Max W. Prehl of Boy Scout Troop 12 for earning his Eagle Scout designation.

Dean Hass, a semi-retired engineer from Keystone Consultants Engineers, Wescosville, is consulting with the recreation commission about a future community center.

The prime location is by Grange Park at the intersection of Ruppsville and Grange roads.

Supervisors approved placing a survey in the next township newsletter coming out in April for feedback from the community.

Keystone Consulting Engineers provided the board with a proposal to address sewer stormwater repairs.

Nine plans are involved with the proposal to help the township meet state requirements by 2018. The board approved this motion to have Keystone address the necessary sewer repairs.

The board approved receiving assistance from Lehigh County Conservation District’s watershed specialist Caitlin Heffner to help reduce potential pollution problems in Little Cedar Creek caused by stormwater, which puts large amounts of sediment in the creek.
