ALBURTIS BOROUGH COUNCIL
During the March 8 meeting of the Alburtis Borough Council there was resolution to the JAR LLC land development plan. The plan was for a multi-family home at 315 E. Stone Ally. The property in question currently has an abandoned house on it and the plan will replace it with an eight unit apartment complex. The conditional use was approved for the plan during the last meeting.
On March 8, council discussed the property connecting to the sanitary sewer system. There was also a discussion about submitting the soil and erosion control plans. The applicant argued they were asked to provide some things not required by law. The addition of sidewalks was also discussed. Council passed a resolution 4-1 allowing the project to move forward.
A bid was prepared for a 30 foot by 40 foot pole building for the maintenance department. The ceiling would be 12 feet high and the building would have three 10 foot by 10 foot garage doors, one main door and two windows. A 1 foot overhang including a soffit with spouting would be placed along the front and rear of the building.
The borough would install the 6 foot concrete pad in addition to the electric, water and heat. There was a debate over whether the building would be used for storage or other work.
Another item discussed was the SCARP estimate. Engineer Jeffrey Ott estimated the total for Arcadis work was $4,400. Some of these estimates included the linear feet of sewer main, number of manholes and number of laterals, as well as a GIS map layer.
An Alburtis resident attended the meeting and brought up the idea of a take a book leave a book program. The resident would sponsor the program at three locations of the borough’s choosing. Some of the locations the borough council discussed were the recreation center, the ball field, a local borough church or a location close to borough hall.
The resident made a point about the importance of children having a library close by they can walk to. Council said they might have to make an exception in the zoning ordinances for the lending library program to work.
The Macungie Ambulance Corps followed up on 292 calls during the month of February. Of those calls, 17 of them were in the borough. The Ambulance Corps also certified 500 people in first aid or CPR in addition to training 1,000 people on the same topics.
The Alburtis Borough Council will hold its next meeting March 29. Meetings are typically 7 p.m. the second and last Wednesdays of the month at Macungie Borough Hall.
