Catasauqua: ‘Grease’

Catasauqua High School travels back to the bygone days of greasers and geeks with “Grease.”

Music and lyrics are by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey with additional songs written by John Farrar.

Show times are 7 p.m. March 17, 18 and 2 p.m. March 19 with a preview show March 16, auditorium, Catasauqua High School, 2500 W. Bullshead Road, Northampton.

Director Brenda McGuire is assisted by choreographer and assistant director Kerry McGuire, assistant choreographer Jessica Englert, vocal director Deborah Ihling and music director Rob Arnold.

“Welcome to a class reunion that will take you back to 1959 Rydell High School,” says McGuire. “The age-old story that never gets old, even in today’s standards: Boy meets girl, boy denies girl, boy really likes girl, girls fight, boys fight, boys get a car, we’re all friends in the end.”

“Grease” premiered in Chicago in 1971, then on Broadway the following year. The 1972 Broadway production received seven Tony Award nominations, the 1994 Broadway revival received three Tony nominations and the 2007 Broadway revival received one Tony nomination.

Songs include “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’” and “We Go Together.”
