Rayna DuBose, whose career projectory changed when she was stricken with a deadly bacterial disease necessitating amputation of all four limbs, will speak at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services March 12 at Union United Church of Christ, Neffs.

The all-time leading basketball scorer at her high school, DuBose received a full athletic scholarship to Virginia Tech.

After a lengthy hospitalization for her illness and challenging therapy, DuBose returned to college and earned her degree.

She has received numerous awards and has made appearances on TV.

DuBose says although she thought her career would be playing professional basketball, she now seeks to be an inspiration and motivation to others through public speaking.

On March 19, Union UCC will host Miller-Keystone Blood Center from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Donations of blood will be accepted for use in the 21 local hospitals served by Miller-Keystone.

Not only church members but volunteers from the community are invited to give blood.

Donors will receive a free pint of homemade soup.

Takeout soup in quarts and pints will be for sale that day with proceeds to benefit Miller-Keystone.

Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, will serve dinners of soup and freshly baked bread 6 p.m. Wednesdays during Lent, until April 5.

A freewill offering may be given. All are welcome.

At 7 p.m., worship takes place in the sanctuary using the Holden Village evening prayer service.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, presents a series of soup, sandwich and study noon Wednesdays during Lent until April 5.

The group will use the devotional, “Diving Lessons,” from the Still Speaking Writers Group.

The Keenagers seniors group will meet 1 p.m. March 21 at St. John’s. Visitors and new members are invited.

Schnecksville Fire Company will have a flea market in the pavilion from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on March 19.

The Auxiliary of Northern Valley EMS, NOVA is taking orders until March 13 for shoo-fly pies which will be ready for pickup March 19 and 20.

The annual Winter Vanquish festival will take place at the Goodwill Fire Company, Germansville, 3-7 p.m. March 26.

The Walt Groller band will supply music and entertainment. A German style catered meal will be provided.
