Salisbury High School presents the 1999 Broadway revival of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” based on characters created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz for his popular newspaper comic strip “Peanuts.” With music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, the musical comedy originally premiered off-Broadway in 1967.
Show times are 7 p.m. March 9, 10, 11 and 3 p.m. March 12, auditorium, Salisbury High School, 500 E. Montgomery St., Allentown.
Will Windsor Erwin directs the Salisbury production, assisted by music director Nina Elias, choreographer Kirsten Almeida, and technical director Chris West.
According to Erwin, “The musical is quite fun. It’s non-linear, meaning there’s no through-line or start, middle, end. Instead, it’s just snapshots of a typical day in the life of our underdog, Charlie Brown.
“Rather than containing full scenes, the script utilizes what it calls ‘quick changes,’ which are more like moments, or, in our minds, ‘individual blocks’ of a comic strip. Once the blocks are added together, it creates the comic strip in its entirety.”
“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” “T-E-A-M (The Baseball Game),” “The Doctor is In (Dr. Lucy)” and “Happiness” are among the songs. The 1999 Broadway receiving four Tony Award nominations, winning two.
