Northampton: Veterans benefit set for Saturday

The second annual Support the Veterans & Their Furry Friends Benefit will be held 6-8 p.m. March 4 at Hampton Lanes, 326 Main St.

Proceeds benefit Dog TAGS of the Lehigh Valley.

The cost of a ticket includes two hours of unlimited bowling, shoe rental and drink ticket for Wyerbacher Draft.

There also will be a bake sale, 50/50 raffle and silent auction.

Congratulations to Craig and Beatrice Beltzner, of Northampton, who were recently named Pennsylvania’s Longest Married Couple for 2017 by Worldwide Marriage Encounter. The couple, married April 26, 1941, has been married for 75 years.

The Beltzners were recognized as part of the seventh annual Longest Married Couple Project that is sponsored by Worldwide Marriage Encounter, a faith-based marriage enrichment program. The intent of the project is to recognize and honor the longest-married couple in the United States, as well as in each of the 50 states and territories. Winners of the LMC project are selected solely from nominations submitted.

On Valentine’s Day, the couple was presented certificates and balloons by Cathy and Tony Witczak, representatives of Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

The Beltzners have five children, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

AARP Chapter 3915 will meet March 8 at Northampton Banquet & Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave.

Doors open noon. Entertainment will be provided.

Those planning to attend are asked to bring a baked good for refreshment.

In the case of inclement weather and schools are closed, there will be no meeting.

St. John’s Friendly Fifties will meet 1 p.m. March 13 in the church’s social hall, 1343 Newport Ave. Parkland High School’s Strolling Strings will perform.

If Northampton schools are closed or delayed due to inclement weather, the meeting is canceled.

Northampton Area Konkrete Kids Educational Foundation will hold an oldies dance April 1 at Northampton Banquet & Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave.

Doors open 5:45 p.m. A hot buffet will be served 6-7:30 p.m., followed by music 7:30-10:30 p.m. by Desire, an oldies doo-wop group.

A basket raffle and 50-50 drawing also are planned.

Attendees must be 21 or older.

Deadline to purchase tickets is March 24. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Tommy Zito will perform 7-10 p.m. April 8 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714, Main Street and Laubach Avenue.

The VFW hosts a polka and button box event 7:30-10:30 p.m. every Friday at the Post home.

Also, VFW canteen is now accepting new members for 2017. Membership is open to the public.
