Boys soccer team honored at board meeting
Northwestern Lehigh’s boys soccer team was recently honored at a school board meeting for finishing second in state playoffs.
Superintendent Mary Anne Wright said they excelled on the field and were respected and appreciated for off-field activities.
As team members received applause, they returned it by applauding the audience.
“It’s what we expect from out Tigers,” she said, during the board’s Feb. 15 meeting.
Lehigh County Commissioner Tom Creighton brought a citation from the county.
Creighton said he has great memories watching many of them since they were 7 years old.
He also thanked Northwestern Lehigh Activities Director Jason Zimmerman, adding this team raised the bar for all future Northwestern soccer teams.
Zimmerman also received thanks for the amazing accomplishment.
To be successful the soccer team has to work together with each giving their best, he said.
The team had 24 wins, 1 tie and 1 loss. They were runner up in the PIAA Class 3A competition.
Creighton presented citations to each member on behalf of the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners.
High School Principal Aileen Yadush congratulated them on behalf of the school board for their Colonial League Championship.
“It is fitting for the board of directors to recognize these student athletes. They are to be congratulated,” said Wright, as she presented certificates.
