Joan M. Shook, 68, of Moore Township, died Feb. 1, 2017, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg. She was the wife of Richard J. Shook Jr. for 50 years.
Born in Palmerton, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Sr. and Nellie (Knittle) Engle.
She was a Class of 1966 graduate of Northampton High School. She later attended and graduated from Sacred Heart Hospital Paramedic Program and Regents School of Nursing.
She was employed by Lehigh Valley Hospital where she worked as a registered nurse, retiring in 2014. She worked as a paramedic from 1974 to 2005, where she last served at Medic 75 in North Whitehall Township.
For many years, she was an active Girl Scout leader in East Allen Township.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John R. and his wife Susan Shook of Womelsdorf; and a daughter, Cynthia A. and her husband Michael Geist of Moore Township; five grandchildren, Shaun Bensinger, Curtis and his wife Denali Shook, Joseph and Zachary and Isabella Geist; a brother, Ralph Jr. and his wife Diane Engle of Schuylkill County; nieces; and nephews.
She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Jennifer; and two brothers, Gerald and Thomas Engle.
