Northampton: VFW Post 4714 plans oldies dance
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714, Main Street and Laubach Avenue, has planned the following events:
• Sweetheart oldies dance with DJ Flip Side, 8-11 p.m. Feb. 11
• Performance by Tommy Zito, 7-10 p.m. April 8
The VFW hosts a polka and button box event 7:30-10:30 p.m. every Friday at the Post home.
VFW canteen is now accepting new members for 2017. Membership is open to the public.

Sign-ups for children’s classes at Northampton Area Public Library are underway.
New to the library is Leap into Science, a workshop that invites children and families to have fun exploring and manipulating the placement of weight in objects to learn more about the science of balance. Come read, play and experiment 6-7 p.m. Feb. 13. This project is made possible by a grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services as administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education through the Office of the Commonwealth Libraries.
Also new this month is Play K, which involves play and learning designed for children preparing for kindergarten. Each week will feature a topic providing an interactive learning experience. The program begins Feb. 21; drop in between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This program is made possible through a grant from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries as part of its Cruise into Kindergarten initiative.

St. John’s Friendly Fifties will meet 1 p.m. Feb. 13 in the church’s social hall, 1343 Newport Ave. Joe Kroboth will entertain.
If Northampton schools are delayed or closed, the meeting is canceled.

Alliance Fire Company, 717 Washington Ave., will hold a pork and sauerkraut dinner 4-7 p.m. Feb. 18.

The second annual Support the Veterans & Their Furry Friends Benefit will be held 6-8 p.m. March 4 at Hampton Lanes, 326 Main St.
Proceeds benefit Dog TAGS of the Lehigh Valley.
The cost of a ticket includes two hours of unlimited bowling, shoe rental and drink ticket for Wyerbacher Draft.
There also will be a bake sale, 50/50 raffle and silent auction.
