Elva C. Hartman

Elva C. Hartman, 89, of New Tripoli, died Jan. 27, 2017, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

She was the widow of Robert C. Hartman, who died in 2012. At the time, they had celebrated 60 years of marriage in November 2011.

Born in Windsor Township, she was a daughter of the late Calvin and Naomi (Sunday) Mengel Sr.

She and her husband were farmers all their lives in the Kempton and New Tripoli areas.

A lifelong member of Jacob’s Church, Jacksonville, Lynn Township, she served there on many committees.

She also volunteered at the Lynnport Fire Company helping at various suppers and functions.

She enjoyed gardening and quilting with family and friends.

Her survivors include a loving son Ronald R. Hartman and his wife, Susan J., of Kempton; sisters Mildred Shollenberger of Hamburg and Raelyn, wife of John Mertz of Kutztown; brothers Calvin (Shirley) Mengel Jr. of New Tripoli, Mylan (Jean) Mengel, Charles (Betty) Mengel and Wayne Mengel, all of Hamburg; grandchildren Jennifer, wife of Keith Bergenstock, Steven (Madie) Hartman, and Nathan (Wenhui) Hartman; and great-grandchildren Annie, Grace, Hannah, Ryan, Nathan and Joshua.

She was predeceased by siblings Ruth Heckman, and Roy and Lester Mengel.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the church memorial fund, sent to the church, 8373 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, PA 18066.
