Whitehall Township Public Library will help collect food items this year for Whitehall-Coplay School District’s Snack Pack Pals program.

The food is gathered and packed for kids who are in the most need of nutritious foods to alleviate severe hunger during long weekends when free breakfast and lunch are not available at the school. The next long weekend is Presidents Day weekend.

This year, the school is serving 80 kids in kindergarten through eighth grade.

If you would like to make a food donation, please see the list below and drop off donations during regular library hours. Items needed are shelf-stable milk boxes, macaroni and cheese (boxes and individual packets), Chef Boyardee (cans and microwaveable bowls), small boxes of cold cereal, fruit cups, applesauce cups, juice boxes/pouches, fruit snacks, packs of cheese/peanut butter crackers, graham crackers, granola bars and gallon-size Ziploc bags.

Sign up today at the library or online for our adult winter reading program, which runs until March 25. Stop by the front desk to register to get your pen, bookmark and 2017 calendar.

This year’s adult winter reading program will be a little different. There will be extra points for completing the game board and for reading books that have keywords dealing with the program’s theme, “Reading in Paradise.” Keep track of all the books you read and win prizes!

The wrap-up party will be 1 p.m. and/or 6 p.m. March 27.

Registration for storytime at the library begins Feb. 7.

Preschool storytime will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 28, March 7, 14, 21 and 28 and April 4, 18, and 25 and 1 p.m. Wednesdays, March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 and April 5, 19 and 26.

Family storytime and craft time will be held 7 p.m. Wednesdays, March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 and April 5, 19 and 26. No registration is needed for this storytime.

Toddler storytime will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursdays, March 9, 16, 23 and 30 and April 6 and 20.

Do you have a hobby or a collection you would like to share with us? Do you collect dolls, glasses or cups, woodworking, cars, old toys, etc.? The library has three display cases that lock, and monthly displays are needed.

Pick up a display case form at the desk. You could use one case or all three, depending on the collection.
