Varsity roundup: Central edges Zephs, 46-45

BOYS BASKETBALL

Emmaus-Northampton

The Hornets beat Northampton 46-36.

Emmaus was led by a 22-point effort from David Kachelries, while twin brother Matt Kachelries added 11 points.

Aidan Ellwood scored 21 points for Northampton.

Freedom-Dieruff

The Patriots beat Dieruff 59-54.

Nick King scored a game-high 19 points for Freedom.

Parkland-Nazareth

The Trojans cruised to an 82-68 win over Nazareth.

Parkland’s Sam Iorio poured in a team-high 23 points, while teammates Jake Bartholomew (15 points), Michael Ruisch (14 points) and Zach Bross (10 points) contributed to a balanced offense.

Nazareth’s Kevin Wagner scored a game-high 29 points.

Central Catholic-Whitehall

The Vikings edged the Zephyrs 46-45.

Jay Vaughn scored a game-high 18 points, while teammate Dat Lambert added 16 points for Central.

Whitehall was led by Zach Gilbert’s 16 points and 11 from Kasai Harrison.

Northwestern-Pen Argyl

A late Northwestern rally came up short as Pen Argyl hung on for a 53-50 win.

The Tigers trailed by 12 points entering the fourth quarter, but cut the gap to three. Northwestern had a chance to tie, but a three-point attempt was off at the buzzer.

Sam Yadush scored 19 points to lead the Tigers (7-12; 5-11), while Rob Seyfried added 15. Luke Hallman also tallied 10.

For the Knights, Adam Strouse had 17 points.

Salisbury-Palisades

The Falcons beat Palisades 71-61.

Jaxon Costello poured in a game-high 28 points for Salisbury, while Jack Reichenbach scored 15 points, Ryan Slutsky added 13 points and Blake Jones chipped in with 12 points in the win.

Palisades was led by Bobby McClintock (21 points) and Bobby Snyder (19 points).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Nazareth-Parkland

The Blue Eagles held on to beat Parkland 41-38.

Parkland took its first lead with 1:44 to go in the third quarter. After the game went back and forth, Nazareth took the lead with 9.6 seconds to go in the game. Jess Durnin deflected a Parkland pass and Morgan Amy grabbed it and was fouled. She made both foul shots to seal the win.

Tessa Brugler scored 25 points for Nazareth.

Julia Buchman had 18 points for Parkland.

Northampton-Emmaus

The Konkrete Kids beat Emmaus 68-57.

Northampton was led by Victoria Keenan and Aja Blount with 21 points each. Jenna Rogers added 15 points for the winners.

The Hornets’ Kiyea White scored a game-high 23 points.

Whitehall-Central Catholic

The Vikettes beat Whitehall 45-35.

Jess Davis scored 15 points for Central Catholic, while Margaux added 11 points.

The Zephyrs were led by Alix Buskirk’s nine points.

Pen Argyl-Northwestern

The Tigers cruised to a 56-34 win over Pen Argyl.

Leighanna Lister scored a game-high 18 points for Northwestern, while Gabrielle Sevrain added 13 points and Sage Christopher chipped in with 11 points.

Palisades-Salisbury

The Falcons took a 27-15 lead after three quarters en route to a 41-28 win over Palisades.

Caylin Meikrantz scored 17 points for Salisbury, while Sarah McGee added 11 points in the win.
