LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

District 11 duals are set

The District 11 team wrestling championships will begin Thursday night and conclude on Saturday evening, as the wrestling postseason is upon us.

Listed below are the format and locations for Thursday’s preliminary and quarterfinal rounds, as well as Saturday’s schedule, which is moved entirely over to Freedom.

AAA

Bethlehem Catholic is the top seed and will host the winner of Bangor (8) and Stroudsburg (9) at 7:30 p.m., as those two schools kick off things at 6 p.m. The other part of the top bracket features Blue Mountain (5) facing Freedom (12) at 6 p.m. in Pottsville. The winner of that match will then take on fourth-seeded Pottsville at 7:30 p.m., as the 12th-seeded Patriots have a chance to leave the first day of competition with two wins.

Moving to the bottom portion of the bracket, Liberty (11) squares off against Parkland (6) in the opening bout at 6 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium, with the winner moving on to face third-seeded Northampton. The Hurricanes should be favored to handle the Trojans after the way Easton defeated Parkland at the EPC Championship Day, while a rematch between Liberty and Northampton, less than a week from their third-place EPC showdown would be the marquee match of the night.

Memorial Gymnasium will also host the other half of the bracket, as Easton (7) and Emmaus (10) get the right to take on Nazareth (2) at 7:30 p.m.

The semifinals move to Freedom on Saturday for a 10:45 a.m. start. Finals are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. If there is a need for a true second-place match, that bout would take place at 7:30 p.m.

AA

North Schuylkill (8) and Catasauqua (9) will open at Bethlehem Catholic at 6 p.m., as the winner advances to take on top-seeded Saucon Valley at 7:30 p.m. Notre Dame Green Pond (5) and Palmerton (12) travel to Northern Lehigh, as they look to take on fourth-seeded Northwestern at 7:30 p.m.

In the bottom bracket, Tri-Valley (6) faces Pen Argyl (11) at 6 p.m. in Pottsville. The winner gets third-seeded Pine Grove at 7:30 p.m. Finally, Lehighton (7) takes on Panther Valley (10) at Northern Lehigh with the hopes of squaring up against second-seeded Wilson at 7:30 p.m.

AA semifinals will be at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday at Freedom with finals and the potential true second-place match up following the same schedule as AAA.
