LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Zephs beat kids again

It was Whitehall versus Northampton Part Deux on Tuesday night, with the Zephyrs performing their own version of hot shots against the visiting Kids.

The Zephyrs erupted for 79 points, easily defeating Northampton who only managed to score 38. The two teams played less than a week ago, and that contest was much closer. But on Tuesday, the Zephs came out of the locker room ready to blaze up and down the court. And once they got the lead, they never let their foot off the gas.

Their 10-point lead after the first quarter swelled to 19 at the break, and then steadily climbed until the margin grew to 41. That’s a a 32-point swing from their first game.

Senior guard Jackson Buskirk said that the key was getting off to a fast start, something they failed to do in their first encounter.

As the lead swelled, Northampton became somewhat dispirited. The Whitehall players could sense that as well.

“Usually when you make a few buckets, and the other team doesn’t get any, and things start to go your way, you can tell,” said Buskirk.

Buskirk’s role has changed this year. Last year he was playing more minutes. His performance in last year’s district game against Southern Lehigh spurred them to victory. While he may not be on the court as much, he still prepares just as hard and he’s ready when his number’s called.

“Whatever helps the team, that’s what I’m willing to do,” said Buskirk who finished with six points.

His attitude is strictly team first. That’s helped propel the Zephs to the top of the Skyline Division in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. With Tuesday’s win they’re now 14-3 overall and 12-1 in the league.

The Zephs were led by Logan McGinley who scored 17 points in the win. Charles “High Flyin’” Hudson scored 11, while Kasai Harrison netted 10. Additionally, Mikey Esquilin and Kayden Walschburger each added eight.
