Varsity Roundup: Iorio drops 41 on Vikes

SWIMMING

Whitehall-Liberty

The Hurricanes swept Whitehall with the boys winning 91-66 and the girls team taking a 97-68 victory.

Event winners for Liberty’s girls team were Abby Mack (200 free, 100 free), Julia McCarthy (200 IM), Natalie Richardson (50 free) and Samantha Taylor (100 backstroke).

Liberty also won the 200 medley relay with the foursome of Anna Lehr, Richardson, Sabrina Krotzer and Kendra Smith. The Hurricanes took the 200 free relay with McCarthy, Richardson, Mack and Smith.

Whitehall winners were Katie Lutterschmidt (500 free), Stephanie Serar (100 butterfly) and the girls 400 freestyle relay team of Setar, Emily Haggerty, Cassidy Larkin and Rachael Alulis.

In the boys meet, Liberty’s event winners were Chase Ledger (200 IM), Omar Mohamed (100 free), Christopher Chambers (500 free), Robert Negron (50 free) the 200 medley relay team of Jase Smith, Chambers, Ledger and Sam Capwell and the 200 freestyle relay team of Jake Evert, Anthone Delcorso, Smith and Negron.

Whitehall’s boys winners were Ziyad Khafagy (200 free), Jordan Rivera (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke), Daniel Jablonski (100 backstroke) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Nathaniel Dolan, Jack Yadush, Nick Martinovic and Michael Nguyen.

Parkland-Dieruff

The Trojans beat Dieruff on Tuesday with the boys winning 126-54 and the girls cruising to a 148-54 victory.

In the boys meet, Parkland again swept the relays.

The 200 MR was won by James Zhang, Kucharczuk, Matthew Ceh and Devin Thurber. The 200 free relay was won by Matthew Ceh, Bar Maymon, Zhang and Kim, while the foursome of Matthew Ceh, Kucharczuk, Bar Mayon, and Kim finished the meet with a victory.

In individual events, Kim won the 50 free and 100 butterfly, while teammates Chris Lehman (diving), Zhang (100 free), Matthew Ceh (500 free), Noam Maymon (100 backstroke) and Engler (100 breaststroke) won one event each.

In the girls meet, Parkland’s winning relay foursomes were Farrell, Rane Sailee, Zaffiro and Krause in the 200 MR; Lauren Ceh, Farrell, Krause and Zaffiro in the 200 free relay; and Sailee, Rane Shefaleee, Frisch and Sophi Stevenson in the 400 free relay.

Individual event winners were Farell (200 free, 500 free), Sailee (100 back, 100 breast), Krause (50 free, 100 free), Grace Newell (200 IM) and Lexi Lehman (diving).

Moravian Academy-Salisbury

The Lions swep the Falcons, beating them 112-63 in the girls meet and 102-71 in the boys meet.

Salisbury’s boys team won the 200 medley relay with the foursome of Daniel Bonge, AJ Oliver, Ben Wiener and Aiden Carey. The Falcons took the 200 freestyle relay with Carey, Oliver, Logan Vitalos and Mahlon Reihman. The Falcons also took the 400 freestyle relay with the foursome of Joseph Oravec, Ben Wiener, Daniel Bonge and Mahlon Reihman.

Reihman also set a pool record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.63. He also won the 100 breaststroke. Other event winners for Salisbury boys were Wiener (200 IM, 500 free), Carey (50 free), Bonge (100 fly), Tyler Keller (diving) and Oliver (100 free).

Event winners for the Salisbury girls team were Sarah Bobeck (200 free, 500 free).

Allen-Freedom

The Patriots swept the Canaries with a 126-50 win in the girls meet and a 100-32 win in the boys meet.

Event winners for Freedom include the girls 200 medley rrelay (Lina Mao, Laura Davison, Erin Madden, Grace Christiansen), the boys 200 medley relay (Jack Runco, Troy Waltington, Grayden Hogan, Tyler Higgins), Erin Madden (200 free, 100 free), Sahil Shah (200 free), Linda Mao (200 IM, 500 free), Spencer Smith (200 IM, 500 free), Leigha Evans (50 free), Shawn Higgins (50 free), Fallon Tatlow (diving), Reilly Ward (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke), Runco (100 free), the boys 200 freestyle relay (Smith, Sahil, Brian Seitz, Runco), Hogan (100 backstroke), Rileigh Ellis (100 breaststroke), Seitz (100 breaststroke), the girls 400 freestyle relay team (Emily Justice, Ward, Tatlow, Sydney Straka) and the boys 400 free relay (Waltington, Smith, Paras Chand, Dominic Fresoli).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Emmaus-Nazareth

The Hornets beat the Blue Eagles.

David Kachelries scored a team-high 26 points for Emmaus, which had four players in double figures. Zach Sabol added 19 points, Matt Kachelries had 14 points and Daryn Lewis scored 13 points.

Nazreth’s Kevin Wagner scored a game-high 36 points in the loss.

Central Catholic-Parkland

The Trojans upped their win streak to eight games with an 89-76 victory of the Vikings.

Parkland’s Sam Iorio scored 41 points, including eight three-pointers. Jake Bartholomew added 20 points for Parkland.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Emmaus-Nazareth

The Blue Eagles beat the Hornets 67-35.

Nazareth’s Tess Brugler led all scorers with 24 points, while Jessica Durrin added 20 points for Nazereth.

Emmau’s Kiyea White scored 16 points.

Allen-Liberty

Allen beat the Hurricanes 68-39

The Chicks’ Mileisha Troche scored a game-high 22 points, while Liberty was led by Kristina Polak with 10 points.

Parkland-Central Catholic.

Parkland beat the Vikettes 40-29.

The Lady Trojans were led by 13 points from Rachel Medlar and 10 from Devyn Anderson.

WRESTLING

Salisbury-Southern Lehigh

The Spartans beat the Falcons 48-12.

Salisbury got wins from Shane Simonis, who pinned Luke Lakatos in 4:30; and Devon Alder, who pinned Michael Smith in 3:53.

Northwestern-Catasauqua

The Tigers beat the Rough Riders 42-36.

Northwestern Harrison Bernhard, Baily Wehr, Donovan White, Colin Rex, Tyler Derr, Jackson Bernhard, Caleb Clymber, and Isaac Bredbenner secured wins for the Tigers.

RIFLE

Emmaus-Southern Lehigh

Emmaus improved to 9-0 and earned the top see for the league tournament, which will inlcude the top four teams in The Northeast Pennsylvania Rifle League.

The Hornets Tucker Danish and Jessica Licker shot 98s in the match, while Alex Baska and Sydney Jones shot 97 and Jacob Baia fired a 96.
