John E. Tanzos, 85, of Whitehall and formerly of Coplay, died Jan. 9, 2017, at home. He was the husband of the late Rose M. (Stangl) Tanzos for 44 years.

Born in Coplay, he was a son of the late John F. and Anna A. (Dragovits) Tanzos.

He was a 1949 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School.

He was in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran.

He was a meat cutter for the former A&B Meats, Allentown. He later co-owned several wholesale and retail businesses.

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Coplay.

He was a life member of American Legion Post 426, Coplay, and Coplay Saengerbund.

He was a member of the former Knights of St. George.

He is survived by a son, John C. of Whitehall; two daughters, Jeanette James of Nazareth and Janice and her husband Jeff Greenzweig of Whitehall; six grandchildren, Brandy, William, Kaitlin, Jillian, Alex and Kyle; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Theresa Kraynik; and his companion, Emma Weber.

He was predeceased by a sister, Anna Cortazzo.
