Laura George, a second-grade teacher at Northwestern Elementary takes part in The Seeing Eye dog program.

She and her family assist The Seeing Eye by participating in the puppy raising program by exposing the young canines to everyday life and socializing and teaching them basic obedience.

This year, George asked Principal Maria Pulli if she could bring her puppy to school.

Pulli suggested making the puppy’s visit a weekly event.

Whoopi, who has a Pack and Play playpen that allows her a time out, ignores activities in the classroom unless otherwise instructed by George.

Student Stevie Rutherford said he was holding Whoopi’s leash during math time and she would pull on it making it difficult for him to write.

Michael Mish told Whoopi to “sit.” He said “good girl” when she complied.

George said the puppy will generally follow instructions the first time.

Whoopi, 4 months old in December 2016, has been on hikes, visited the South Mall, Pizza Hut and more with her handlers.

She is not allowed to visit grocery stores until she is an official Seeing Eye dog.

She will remain with the George family until she is 14- to 17-months-old when she will begin officially training with the Seeing Eye dog program.
