Northampton: Public library seeks volunteers

The Northampton Area Public Library is seeking a volunteer to bring library materials to homebound individuals in Lehigh Township one or two times a month.

Volunteers also are needed to monitor the teen lounge 2:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays and 2:30-4 p.m. Thursdays.

The library will hold its second annual “Harry Potter” night for kids and teens 6 p.m. Feb. 2. Join the library for games, treats and magical spells as they celebrate “Harry Potter”!

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714, Main Street and Laubach Avenue, has planned the following events:

• Tommy Zito performance, 7-10 p.m. Jan. 21

• Friends of Tom Trio, 7-10 p.m. Jan. 28

• Karaoke with DJ Bubba, 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Feb. 4

• Sweetheart oldies dance with DJ Flip Side, 8-11 p.m. Feb. 11

The VFW hosts a polka and button box event 7:30-10:30 p.m. every Friday at the Post home, Main Street and Laubach Avenue.

The VFW canteen is now accepting new members for 2017. Membership is open to the public.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 2181 Washington Ave., will hold a breakfast 8:30 a.m.-noon Jan. 22.

In addition to the regular menu, this month’s special is creamed chipped beef on toast.

There is a cost. Tickets are sold at the door.

Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1301 Newport Ave., is taking halupki orders. Orders must be placed by Feb. 4, and pickup will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 11 at the church.

Northampton Area Food Bank will be sponsoring a Stuff Your Purse designer purse bingo fundraiser Feb. 5 in the gymnasium of Good Shepherd Catholic School gym, 1300 Newport Ave. Snow date is Feb. 12.

Doors open noon. The games begin 2 p.m.

Prizes will be designer purses and gift cards.

The cost of a ticket includes 20 games of bingo. Specials will be available as well.

The event also includes a Chinese auction, 50/50 drawing, door prizes, mystery envelope game and a cash drawing.

Food will be available for purchase.
