Coplay: Meetings set in the borough
With the holidays now over, meetings are back on the agenda for several borough groups.
The 150th anniversary committee meets 7 p.m. this evening, Jan. 19, at Samuel Owens Restaurant, 128 Chestnut St.
Coplay Community Days gets back in full swing with a meeting in council chambers of borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St., 7 p.m. Jan. 23. Steve Burker retains his post as the committee’s chairman. Much of the programs for the late August weekend bash are already in place.
The borough planning commission meets 7 p.m. Jan. 24 in council chambers.
The park and recreation board meets 7 p.m. Jan. 25 in council chambers.

Coplay Sports Inc. will hold sign-ups for the 2017 baseball and softball season. Eligible baseball players are those born between May 1, 2002, and March 31, 2013. Eligible softball players are those born between Jan. 1, 2002, and March 31, 2013.
Offered this year is T-ball for boys and girls ages 4 through 6. Also new this year is online registration at coplaysports.org.
Sign-up dates will be noon-2 p.m. Jan. 21, noon-2 p.m. Jan. 28 and 6-7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at Coplay Sports Fieldhouse, 666 Potter Terrace.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, South Third Street, will host a chicken potpie dinner 4-6 p.m. Jan. 28 in the church hall.

The first of several charity- and civic-based runs/walks on the Ironton Rail Trail (IRT) is set for April 1.
The Run to Live 5-K walk/8-K run, organized by Spread the Gold, will benefit children with cancer and their families.
There also is a fun run and obstacle course for kids.
The gathering place is the Coplay Parkway pavilion, and the run/walk begins on the IRT near Saylor Cement Kilns.
