Over the next few weeks, Catasauqua’s wrestling program is looking to take a turn upward.

Beginning this week, the Roughies had two matches left on their Colonial League schedule, ones that could have a dramatic effect to the end of their season.

Catty traveled to Palmerton Wednesday night and then will host Northwestern the following Tuesday. The Roughies began the week with a 4-2 mark in the league and the outcomes of their last two matches will determine whether or not they can participate in the Colonial League Duals Jan. 30.

They were tied with Northwestern for the fourth overall spot in the league. Catty is coming off an impressive win over Northern Lehigh and a difficult loss to Wilson, one of the three top teams in the league with Bangor and Saucon Valley.

“We’re looking forward to the last two matches,” said head coach Kyle Rusnock. “We had a nice win over Northern Lehigh and then Wilson beat us up. Going into the match with Palmerton we were in pretty good shape.

“We know we’ll have a challenge with Northwestern. Saucon (Valley), Bangor, and Wilson are on the other side (Eastern Division) and we’re on the other side (West) with Northwestern at the top. We really can’t afford to split these two matches. We need to have them both.”

Rusnock is confident his lineup will be solid down the stretch. Bradshaw Henning will be at 106 and Ryan Greene has his spot at 145. WilQuon Clemens will open at 145.

“We like our lineup right now,” added Rusnock. “We have a couple of guys at 145 and a couple of guys at 152, 160, and 170. This will allow us to move some people around.”

Rusnock also is optimistic about his team’s possible showing at the Berwick Duals this weekend. The Roughies will wrestle either four or five matches depending on the amount of teams in the tournament.

“We like to wrestle teams outside our area,” said Rusnock. “It is nice to get out of our area and see other teams. It is good competition for us.”

Whatever the case, Rusnock has a good feeling about his team over the next few weeks.

“I like the direction we’re headed right now,” he said. “Right now, we have to embrace the opportunity in front of us. Anything can happen and we have to rise to the occasion.”
