Melvin C. Bruder, 75, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Emmaus, died Dec. 18, 2016, in the M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital, Houston. He was the husband of Gale Bruder, of Dallas and the son of the late Carson and Louise (Morrall) Bruder, of Emmaus.

He graduated from Emmaus High School in 1959 where he played football and was a wrestler. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1964 and the University of Texas Law School in 1965.

He opened his own law practice in Dallas in 1970 and twice successfully argued cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

He is survived by his wife; stepmother, Bettie Snydeman Bruder, of Emmaus, sister, Karen Kidd, of Green Bay, Wis. and step-grandchildren, Alex and Lizzie, of Dallas.

A memorial service was held in Dallas Jan. 6, 2017.
