‘Bach at Noon’ concerts resume in Bethlehem
The Bach Choir of Bethlehem presents its 85th “Bach At Noon” concert, noon Jan. 10, Central Moravian Church, Main and Church streets, Bethlehem.
Admission is free and no tickets are required. A free-will offering will be received. It’s recommended attendees arrive early to be sure of a seat. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.
The program, conducted by Greg Funfgeld, Bach Choir artistic director, includes J.S. Bach’s Cantata 96, “Herr Christ, der einge Gottessohn” (“Lord, Christ, the only son of God”) with soloists Katherine Kaiser, Barbara Hollinshead, Charles Blandy and Christopheren Nomura. Tricia Van Oers, sopranino recorder, paints an image of Christ as the Morning Star.
Also on the program is Music for the Nativity, including “Lo! How A Rose E’er Blooming” by Max Drischner & Hugo Distler; “Joseph, lieber Joseph, mein” by Johann Walther and “Geistliches Wiengenlied” (“Sacred Lullaby”) by Johannes Brahms with Loretta O’Sullivan, cello, and Greg Funfgeld, piano.

Feb. 14
Warren Martin (1916-1982), “The True Story of Cinderella” for 12 solo voices, narrator, piano and chime. Members of The Bach Choir of Bethlehem with Thomas Goeman, piano, and Greg Funfgeld, narrator.
March 14
J.S. Bach (1685-1750), Concerto in A Major for Oboe d’amore, BWV 1055, with Mary Watt, oboe d’amore;
Cantata 32, “Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen,” with soloists Rosa Lamoreaux and William Sharp.
April 11
Antonio Vivaldi, Concerto for Two Trumpets in C Major, RV 537, with Lawrence Wright and Brian Kuszyk, trumpets;
J.S. Bach, Cantata 66, ”Erfreut euch, ihr Herzen”
“Bach at Noon” is an arts and community development initiative that has been acclaimed regionally and nationally. It was launched in 2005 with seven performances a year in Central Moravian Church January-April and September-November.
In 2015, “Bach at Noon” was expanded to include an Allentown “Bach at Noon” series at St. John’s Lutheran Evangelical Church in center city Allentown, which now includes three performances in June, July and August.
The Bethlehem and Allentown series regularly attracts capacity audiences for a total of more than 8,000 people annually.
