To the Editor:

You may remember the old Arsenio Hall Late Night Show which had a segment called “Things That Make Me Go HMMMM!” It was based on reflections he had while driving home after the show. Like Mr. Hall I too have lots of time to think since I drive the infamous Route 22 every day. As a result, I have two such reflections for consideration.

First. I understand there is an oil distributor in Maine who made a “personal decision” not to deliver oil to anybody who voted for Donald Trump. He appears to be within his legal rights to do so. On the other hand, a baker made her own “personal decision” not to make a wedding cake for a same sex couple. The baker was promptly sued and put out of business. Can somebody explain the difference?

Secondly, I was horrified by a young mother locally who “killed” her 2-year-old son by throwing him off the Hamilton Street Bridge. She was given 40 years in prison. However, if she would have had an abortion two years ago and “killed” the baby in her womb, she would have been applauded. Can someone also explain this one to me?
