Swimmers sweep SHS

The Whitehall swim team swept Salisbury on Tuesday.

Whitehall’s girls won 110-58, while the boys team beat Salisbury 92-70. That winning score came despite some stellar performances by the Falcons.

In the girls meet, Whitehall’s Martha Giletto won two individual events, taking the 200 free in 2:11.89 as well as the 100 fly in 1:07.43. Steph Setar won the 200 IM in 2:21.11. Rachel Alulis won the 50 free in 29.36 and Kallie Lyle took the 500 free in 6:09.58. Julia Thomas won the 100 back in 1:14.65 and Autumn Kidulic was a winner in the 100 breast-stroke in 1:19.19.

Setar, Kidulic, Giletto and Hannah Miller won the 200 medley relay in 2:08.75 and Kayla Tandrasitz, Giletto, Setar and Patricia Bartosh won the 200 free relay in 1:56.92.

So far, head coach Pete Rile has liked what he’s seen from the teams.

“We are very pleased with the early team success so far,” Rile said. “We have a number of district qualifiers so far and expect to improve on that in the next few weeks.”

In the boys meet, the Falcons’ Daniel Bonge and Mahlon Reihman set Whitehall pool records. Bonge swam the 100-yard backstroke in 56.40 and Reihman touched the wall in 48.46 seconds in the 100 freestyle. Both won two individual events at the meet.

Whitehall’s Jordan Rivera won both his individual events while swimming on two winning Zephyr relay teams. Rivera won the 50 free in 24.01 as well as the 100 breast-stroke in 1:11.83. Sebastian Solarte-Vigil won the 100 fly in 48.46 while Nate Dolan took the 500 free in 5:43.95.

Jack Yadush, Ziyad Khafagy, Rivera and Dan Jablonski made up the 200 free relay team which won with a time of 1:38.46. Solarte-Vigil, Jablonski, Khafagy and Rivera made up the winning 400 free relay team which had a winning time of 1:38.46.

“Our girls are showing some versatility in events but we still have some holes in our sprint freestyle to fill,” Rile said. “The boys have some excellent talent, just numbers still continue to be a problem.”
